This site is co-ordinating a campaign to get people from across Ireland discussing ways that the current situation on our roads can be improved.

We’ve started by asking Irish bloggers to put posts on their own blogs, giving their ideas on their own blogs and getting their readers to comment.

Now we’re asking BeBo users to get involved too. Here’s what we want you to do:

Write a post on your BeBo blog about road safety in Ireland

Give your ideas on how you think things can be improved. All ideas are welcome, but the more original, the better

Come back to this page, and put a link to your BeBo blog in the comments box

We’ll add your suggestions to those we received, and use them to make part of our submission

To stay in touch, add roadsafety as a friend in BeBo The email address is roadsafety [a-t] roadsafetyblog.com

This project is about giving ordinary people, across Ireland, a voice. In particular, we want Young People to get involved, and to spread the word. We’ll be sending your views to the Road Safety Authority, The Minister for Transport, The Taoiseach, the Motor Industry and Insurance Bodies, and every single member of the Oireachtas.

If you take part, let us know, and tell your friends about this site - http://www.roadsafetyblog.com/

We’ve had a great reaction from the bloggers (here’s a list of some of the early participants), but we need more and more submissions.

On our roads, Young People are Killing Young People. This is our chance to try to make a difference.

Thanks,
Damien

It has been brought to my attention that the Road Safety Authority are currently accepting formal suggestions for the Road Safety Strategy 2007-2012. The closing date for submissions is November 27th*.

Here’s how I’d like to progress this campaign:

We continue seeking suggestions from blogs, forums and comments, until 9am on Monday 30th October

I’ll collate all the posts and submissions

Similar suggestions will be grouped together here, for discussion until Monday, November 13th

I’ll post the draft submission online on Monday, November 20th

Submission must be finalised by 9am, Thursday November 23rd

I’ll then make the submission to the Road Safety Authority on Thursday, to arrive in time for the closing date. I’ll send it to the others involved over the weekend.

Does anybody have any suggestions for handling this differently?

* Please forgive the political link, this is the first source I’ve found with the date.
